Queensland's Robby Mounfield transforms his Federal Tyres SIL80 drift car

After a promising start to its life in 2010, Robby Mounfield, from Neta Tyres (Federal Tyres Queensland distributor) tells us about the makeover of his Federal Tyres SiL80 drift car.

Mounfield Racing welds new roll cage

In late November 2010, the Sil80 was sent to Ralph at Mounfield Racing, for a comprehensive full weld in roll cage. After much deliberation of design and position, the result was exactly what the team wants. The fitting of a Roll Cage would be the beginning of the makeover of the Sil80, with the next step being completely gutting the interior and painting the cage and all interior.

Bodywork, panel and paint

Next step was the big one, Body Work, Panel and Paint. This task, like almost all of the build, was done in-house, by Robby and the Team at Federal Tyres Drift Team. The 180sx body shell was stripped of all of its panels, including the rear widebody, and the makeover continued. The rear wheel arches are now tubbed to suit the 18x10.5” VARRSTOEN wheels, and accommodate the 285/30R18 FEDERAL RSR Tyres.

Getting primed

After making sure inner wheel clearance was achieved, the Adrenalin rear over fenders were fitted to compliment the Vertex front and rear bumpers, as well as Vertex side skirts. Once all panels were trial fitted, the job of priming and painting the whole car was to be done, the colour was laid down impeccably by team member Tye. A result all were happy with!

Wildstyle Designs works their magic

The next step, the vinyl wrap left the team to do a lot of planning but gave them time to relax as the job was undertaken by Pedro at Wildstyle Designs. The vinyls, both design and application, are a testament to Pedro’s ability. With countless hours of work going in to reveal a flawless finish. In a matter of days he transformed the blank white canvas to what you see today.

Thank you sponsors!

Shoot-7The Sil80 has now been fitted with a full complement of Driftworks suspension (with thanks to John and Sam at Cartel-Online), as well as a custom made EXEDY Clutch (With thanks to the team at Exedy Aust.) With the competition getting fierce for 2011, STZ Automotive (Marty and Michael) have wired and tuned in the Haltec Engine Management.
